This is one of them: "Dickens' Mittens The Last Word." I don't have much Christmas spirit while it's going on--there's no time!--but afterwards, probably because it's more peaceful and relaxed and there are no expectations to fulfill and no hysteria, I want to stitch a Christmas project in front of the fire. And light the Christmas lights, which by now are taken down and put away. A day late and a lightbulb short.
This was New Year's lunch. We drove to Falls Church for dim sum and to do some errands. We nibbled and sat for a couple of hours; we've learned over time that the dim sum cart offerings change gradually, and it's best not to fill up right away on steamed dumplings and pot stickers (which you can get anywhere), because if you're patient, the more interesting and exotic things come later. Which is kind of metaphorical, isn't it? This restaurant is open 365 days a year, and is perfect for those of us seeking a respite from the same-old holiday fare. One Thanksgiving we took our guests there instead of making the same old turkey-and-stuffing-and-gravy-and-cranberry. They didn't like it--LOL.

The dim sum lunch sounds nice, and I'm sorry your attempt to take guests there for a holiday dinner didn't work out. How long ago was that?
My family has become less traditional about such things, going with green chili enchiladas or lasagna sometimes. Dim sum would be a bit much for them, though. One year when we had no family in town for the holiday, Dan and I did Christmas lunch at an upscale Indian place and I think it was the nicest Christmas meal we ever had. It's good to change things up a bit.

Gone fishing looks great! You seem to be close to a finish on it. I am in total agreement with you about being too busy for Christmas spirit while the holiday preparations are ongoing. The CC Dickens piece looks like it will be really cute.
Love the Dickens Mitten :) I'm always like that...still wanting to stitch Christmas stuff in Jan. Mainly because I didn't get it done in time for Christmas, lol!

Your attitude about the holidays is spot on with mine. Next year, lets just go somewhere away from the fuss and stitch.

Pink is a smart one. Love all the sampler houses, wonder what their occupants look like. Dim Sum seems fine to me for any meal any time, hrrrmph.....

Looks like you'll be posting a finish real soon - Gone Fishing is looking great. What a lovely house you photographed. I love the colonial look but I live in the southwest where everything is stucco (and new)! Sniff sniff. In my next life.....that's all I can say!
