WIP 7: Birth of Jesus

Evening, all! I lost the light before I could post progress on one of the projects I restarted, but I did have this loaded. It's "Birth of Jesus" by the Stitching Parlor. I started it a long time ago, and I stopped working on it when I realized I should have stitched it on higher count fabric. The coverage (using NPI) is pretty good, but I'm not happy with Mary's sheer white dress. The Wisper is looking fuzzy on the sheep, though. What to do: maybe take unstitch Headless Mary and restitch with another color? It's a shame not to finish; I even know where all the tiny brass stars I purchased and the big star button are! I stitched on an unknown linen in color "natural."

For those interested in my fishing, I have not had a chance to fish off the bridge (and no one else was there either), which has a lot to do with the crisp wind and 30 degree temps and the fact that I have come down with a roaring cold that I have so generously provided to my 84 year old father. What a great and helpful guest I am--bubonic plague, anyone? But look what jumped straight out of the water, fileted and complete with lemon: scrod!

Tonight's close is in honor of Savannah, the lovely spotty rabbit owned by Rabbits' Guy and Bunny Lady of House of Rabbits. Savannah passed away at the age of 9, which is quite old for a rabbit. Here she's pictured visiting the law library in DC. We will miss Savannah and send condolences to her family and friends.

See you tomorrow.

Mary is so often shown in blue - maybe that would work better than the white?

So sorry about you and your dad's shared cold - get-well wishes to you both!

Love the fish story!

What a lovely design! I second a blue dress as the more traditional if the white bugs you.

Many moons ago when I was blessed with a LNS, a lady brought in a similar situation (coverage) on a large flower. Not wanting to rip it out or change color, she ended up outlining or backstitching around each stitch with two threads. It created a different looking texture but she was happy. Hope the blue works - it's a really nice piece.

I am thinking blue too for Mary.

Nice WIP! I do like this one! Bummer on the cold though. :( Hope you're both feeling better quickly.

The WIP is lovely. How about going back over the top cross of Mary's dress. Maybe the extra floss coverage would be more pleasing.
Sorry you've and your Dad have been struck down with a nasty cold bug.

Birth of Jesus looks so very lovely. Not sure what I would do in your situation. Backstitching is an option, or putting a half cross over the existing stitch in a slightly darker color (did that before...lol) or ripping and stitch again in another color.
That wasn't really any help wasn't it? lol
But at the end you have to do what you find the most beautiful. :)

Very cute WIP - honestly, the dress looks fine to me. Would it be an option to half-stitch over it with a single strand of a darker colour? Then you wouldn't have to rip.

I love the "birth of Jesus" and I must say that all my Mary statues here at the house has her in blue as an over coat type thing and just a bit of white peeking out at the hem. But I would stitch her in blue if it were mine :)

So sorry to hear of Savannah the bunny. May she rest in peace over the rainbow bridge.

The Birth of Jesus is lovely and I'm sorry I don't have a solution for you other than what others have suggested.

I love this one. I bought the chart after seeing yours. Wonder if you use two strands on her dress? I kind of like it the white, but white is a pain to stitch with. Sorry to hear about the colds - hope you're both recovered soon!

Oh thanks for the Savannah photo!!! She looked good everywhere!

Don't fish when it's cold for gosh sakes. Who told you to do that?

Yum on the scrod though!

(That your boat?)

Love the Savannah picture!!! Shame on you for sharing your cold with your dad ;-). Hope you are both feeling much better.

The Nativity piece is just gorgeous. Can you believe, finally something I don't have in my stash.
