New Start 1 and WIP 5: Elizabeth Savilles

Greetings! I've assembled two projects on this page, since tomorrow I will probably be on the road until past dark--it's about a 10-hour trip--and although I intend to leave early, I'm not sure I'll pull that off since I'm dragging, and I haven't packed or loaded the car yet. I did get the oil changed and went through the car wash, and bought snacks and grocery shopped for everyone including the bunnies (hay with marigolds, hay with rose petals and herbs, plain hay) and the cats and heavens, of course the fish tank heater died today. Tom is going to be bunny sitting, which is always funny, because he and Pink are not good friends and Pink finds new ways to torture him each time. Last time Pink slipped away into another room, and it took a long time to get him back in the bunny room.

I started Christmas Garden a couple of days after the new year. I dithered because I wasn't sure I loved the Calico Kitty CC fiber, seen in the border. Calico Kitty is very variegated, and its colors range from orangey to deep Christmas red to mauve. Mauve--the only color in the universe that I despise. And the photo in the booklet looks more pinky/red/purple than the IRL fiber. So, what to do. I spent a long time at the wall of fibers in the needlework shop and playing with the fibers in my ziplock bag. I considered many (including GAST and WDW): various roses, pinks, pomegranate, raspberry parfait, rhubarb. I stitched the beginning of the flower in rhubarb. See? Too sweetly, stickily pink--dang, it looks like Elizabeth Savilles' carnations. I can't decide. Perhaps the called for fiber is perfect as is, I'm beginning to be convinced. What do you think? I love the design, and I'm stitching it on 40 count Picture This Plus Legacy.

Here's the photo of the project.

Here's Elizabeth Savilles. Her flowers are very pretty, but I stopped working on the sampler because I found it...boring. Just boring. I've gotten interested in her again, though, so maybe I'll pick her up again.

This is an old photo of Pink, but I chose it because the colors go so well with the rest of the post. Pink: "You can never go wrong with Pink!"

See you Saturday!

lol! You're right, that photo of Pink looks great with your pieces. Elizabeth Savilles is so pretty! I actually like the color you're stitching Christmas Garden with, but on the other hand, I was planning on just using the calico Kitty. So I don't know. :D Nice start though! Good luck with the drive tomorrow. At least the weather is good, right?

Cute picture of Pink!!!!

I am going to use the Calico Kitty. I wasn't sure about it either but it was used in one of the AotH blocks and ended up being gorgeous and didn't feel quite as variegated as you think it would. If I were going to substitute, maybe WDW Baked Apple or CC Barn Door.

Love Elizabeth too, of course I have her as well ;-).

Hey Glenna - great post, and so coordinated, too. ;) Could you shoot me an email about your bunny room? I've been keeping my Silver Fox rabbits in cages but I'm just so unhappy every time I look at them ....

Great start! I think it looks great but the pink might be a tad too pink. Elizabeth is looking wonderful! I hope you have a safe road trip!

I love both! They look like lovely projects!

Love your "pink" post! I have found many times that I switch the colors to look more like the pictures on the pattern covers. Not sure why they seem to vary so much from the threads that are actually used.

Needed to fix my above (deleted now) post!
The big blue bug of RI...I used to drive to/from work by there everyday. A true landmark!
Your stitching is beautiful.

Have a safe trip. Whenever i see the giant bug in RI, I know that I am getting close to home. I think that i will be using the Calico Kitty for the bbd design.

I think both projects look so pretty! I think you should use the color that you are most comfortable with. Cute picture of Pink, and I love the photo in your blog header!

Gorgeous! I like the Calico Kitty, but I do get frustrated when my color doesn't match what I expect it to look like, you know? And I love love love Elizabeth...I hope you find her less boring. Safe trip!

I very much like the threads suggested for Christmas Garden, so I'm just using those. I've always liked WDW red pear and Crescent wild berries in the pinkish/red range, those would be alternatives I'd consider (don't know if they would work though).

I'll have to go look at my Calico Kitty after you mentioned that, but I figure I need more skeins and the dye lots change enough that who knows what I might get?! I say go with what makes you happiest. I am trying to learn that myself--because I tend to just keep at it until I get to a point where I don't want to continue but have done too much to want to restart! I love your Liz Savilles, too--another in the 'to do soon' pile!

Safe travels!

Hmm, I love the Calico Kitty on Christmas Garden. A very nice start. And Elizabeth looks gorgeous, particularly the colours of the carnations.

I love the colors in Elizabeth. I think sometimes certain projects just need to ripen in the bag for a while. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. LOL

Seems that everyone is in a dithering about what colors to use on Christmas Garden. I started mine last week, but I'm still not too sure about what I want to do. What I know is that I will not be using Calico Kitty! Too orange for me...orange is the color I most dispose in the universe. ;-)

Good luck with your final decision.
