What's on My Q-Snaps

I am in Vonna's stitching corner when it comes to using Q-snaps. All of my Q-snaps are the same size: 8 inches. I do have one smaller set for small cuts of fabric. I have a larger set that I don't use because it makes my right hand tired. I never had any luck with scroll frames--just didn't work for me. Unlike Vonna, I don't use a piece of felt or fabric between the plastic and my fabric--I don't like the fabric too taut, because I am a sew-er and not a stabber. I haven't found that I've got excessive wear on my threads, although when I'm showing my projects to the owner of my LNS, she goes "eeek!" and tucks the ends of my fabric under the plastic clip (then I take it out when I get home). Anyway, here are a couple of things in my Q-snaps this weekend. I'm calling this project "South Beach": the architecture is not art deco, but the colors are. I'm also on the SB diet--which means I could eat that bird, but not eat the pears hanging on that tree or the black-seeded, mostly unripe strawberries. Because I cannot eat them, I want them, although they're decidedly funky. If the bird is gone next week, it's because I have skewered him for our rotisserie.

Also on my Q-snaps is this little design, LHN's "Winter Welcome." I have a little easel in my foyer that displays SB's Tiny Flag (is that what it's called?), and I've decided it might be nice to have a season-appropriate welcome sampler instead. Then I thought in the obsessive way I do, about finding lots of welcome samplers and stitching them all for my foyer. Welcome, welcome, welcome from all the samplers in my foyer--like stitchy echoes.

And here's my progress. My fabric isn't quite that dark, but I'm taking pictures under a lamp today because of the cruddy weather. I'm using 40 ct Lakeside in Sand Dune, and using some of the called-for GAST threads. Instead of the silver DMC called for, I'm substituting Kreinik blending filament and braid. Instead of DMC colors I've substituted more GAST threads.

Speaking of fabrics, here's a new color I have sampled (in the smallest size--a stitcher's eighth) in Lakeside 40 ct called "Misty Rain." This is a fairly true photo--I'm comparing it to last week's "Wild Rose" Lakeside. It's the perfect light silvery color if you're looking for a light fabric with a slight blue-ish/gray cast but not too much. I can foresee using it for lots of projects, so I'll buy larger cuts later.

The cats are complaining that they're rarely pictured on my blog. This is Shy Tabby, Scratchy and Buckaroo, sleeping on ratty towels on the only one of the three sofas in our house where they are not supposed to sleep. Normally there are four cats here. How do they know? It's a mystery.

And speaking of ratty towels, here's Peaches, busily rearranging her towel. Why? Also a mystery. Rabbits very fussily arrange things and then re-arrange things.

Happy week ahead!

Your sampler is looking beautiful! I used a piece of Vintage Misty Rain a few year's ago and it's a lovely soft blue-grey. I could really do with some more, as I have a lovely skein of purple/blue/pink silk that I think would work well with it.

Cute photos of the kitties/Peaches too :)

Oh you gave me some good laughs on this post. Mostly the bit about being on the SB Diet and wanting to eat the pears and what not and can't! I know, I'm on another 'diet' and it's amazing how we cannot avoid food even when I shut off the TV. Books I read or audio books too. Darn.

Back to your stitching. I like the Winter Welcome. You do whatever you want - welcome welcome welcome in whatever season! Great!

Oh, you are tempting me with more linens but thanks for showing that. I will have to jot that down.

And Wisdom is very pretty! Very summery!

Glenna, the colors in Wisdom are just gorgeous! It does look SB in color! I did the SB diet for 3 weeks (in conjunction with WW) when I wanted to drop 20 and it came off pretty quickly. Good luck!

Love the idea of welcoming samplers and you've certainly got a good start on your newest addition.

I, too, tend not to put fabric between my canvas and the snap. The only time I really do is if the canvas is just a shy short. I find that it keeps the canvas that I am working on a bit more taut and the snap doesn't slip as much.

Love the progress pics!

The cats look so cuddly!!

Oooooh, I love your Wisdom sampler! (Who is the designer? I should know!) And your Little House piece is pretty too! I love both the linens in your pic -- it's fun to have colors that aren't the norm once in a while. Your cats looks so comfy!

Gorgeous stitching! And I just love that your furbabies are as naughty as ours when it comes to being where they ought not to be. LOL!

I think Peaches is pretty much doing what you mentioned up in the stichy part about the lady that tucks the pieces under and then you rearrange them later ... Heee Heee ... cats eeeeeuuuuuuwwww .

Peaches is doing just what she's supposed to do. Bunnies are expert decorators!

As for the kitties, my experience has been that wherever you leave a towel, that's where they'll go. I guess cats like terrycloth.

all bunnies do that arranging and rearranging thing, its delightful to watch, i think it goes back to their collecting nesting material in the wild.

Nice photo of the cats too, they look very happy together

I love your sampler....I am in the middle of a sampler myself!!! Your progresses are awesome. The blueish Lakeside is begging for the right sampler to be done also..Thanks for showing the contrast of the linens. I think I might try a piece of that myself if I can figure out who sells it!!!

And I love South Beach...GORGEOUS!
AND I didn't even realize you had cats! LOL! Happy to see those little guys and gals :)

I stitch completely in hand. Q-snaps, hoops or frames would drive me insane! I like hearing about how other's stitch though.

The cats look cute all snuggled together. Peaches sure looks healthy and sleek!

I am in love with Wisdom (aka South Beach). So gorgeous. I love the changes you're making to Winter Welcome too - that will be pretty.

Great post, Glenna! I LOL'ed several times!! :) (in particular re: skeweringt the bird for your dinner, and the "welcome welcome welcome" echoes in your foyer - Ha!) I really love "wisdom". The colors are just luscious! Animals are smart little critters, aren't they? Your comment about your kitties reminds me of a chain email I once received about the difference between cats & dogs - demonstrated by their respective daily diary entries. If you've never seen it let me know and I'll send it to you - It's a scream!

Oh!! How could I have forgotten?? I am in the Q-Snap corner, too! I put batting btwn the fabric & the clamps b/c I like it drum tight. I'll never go back to hoops!!

Beautiful progress on everything, Glenna! I am an in hand stitcher but hey, different strokes for different folks--it is all the same in the end! ;)

Beautiful works in progress, all of them.

I used to be an in-hand stitcher, but since I've learned that stitching with the help of Q-snaps or scroll frames I can stitch with two hands (by using the table and myself as a scroll-frame-stand), I'm hooked.

Ah, the cats. Lovely picture. Sorry about the couch. They DO know.
