The Night before Christmas (Mouse Version)

I'm going to wait until Christmas eve to do the Night Before Christmas Rabbit Version. I'm worn to a nub; I went out shopping today, and it was all a bit much. Heard in Target: "If you don't shut up I'm going to bust you in the head and you can sit in the truck 'til I'm done."

As an antidote to big-box Christmas cheer, I went to Old Town Fredericksburg and strolled around, not shopping, just taking Christmas pictures, some of which you'll see over the next few days. There is a store called Wittingham's that sells various household decor, furniture items and a full range of kitchenware. Each year the window could rival anything on Fifth Avenue for creativity. Here's this year's window. The mice are all handmade, and the displays cleverly incorporate the store's wares.

I so miss Christmas windows like these. Meyer & Frank used to do these but then dropped them for the cheaper "lets do the same windows every year!" I think some of the props for the 12 days of christmas were on their way to the dump when Macy's bought them out in Portland. Now all we have are artfully done ads.

All the towns around us are small and have their "old Town streets with many shops with nice decorations. It's a great time to just go stroll and look ...

Great pictures.

We heat with propane, including kitchen stove and hot water heaters so power outages are not so bad for us ... none this time though!

Sooo darling! Though I'm really scared to death of mice!! LOL I remember being in NYC and walking to see the Christmas windows, what fun it was. Thanks for sharing. And, thanks for caring about me and being a dear friend this year. I love my NRR, and your stitching makes it so special. Have a wonderful and loving Christmas, and a stitchy 2009. Hugs, Deb

Really cute mousies! No one in my town has nearly as nice windows...maybe we're too small for such creativity...but there are small white lights strung along the street and on a lot of the streetside trees, which is quite pretty at night.
