Cobblestones, Brick and Lionheads

No sign of cooling temps, so I'm happy to be a slug indoors this weekend with my needlework. I didn't get much done during the week, but I've made some progress this weekend on Miriam Chilvers:

Audrey and I haven't ventured out to explore Richmond either. But I did scurry out to the local independent bookstore and to pick up some pizza for lunch. On the way, I took this shot of a cobblestoned alley. The street in this part of town--Shockoe Slip--is cobblestone too, but newer, and installed in a kind of clamshell-quilt pattern. These are the real deal, rounded and worn down with use.

I am not sure what has happened to Richmond's downtown area; it is pretty sparsely populated. I imagine the recession is responsible for some of it, but the downtown area becomes virtually deserted after 5:30. The good pizza place I visited closes at 5:00 p.m. Clearly workers don't hang around downtown after hours. Wouldn't this make a great knitting/needlework/quilt store? Those white shutters can be removed and the windows are floor to ceiling. (Probably not from an economic standpoint--but at least from an aesthetic one.) I love the old warehouse-y brick buildings with the old stenciled writing on them.

Malcolm Russell and his wife have gotten themselves a couple of baby lionhead rabbits. Go here to see them--they are just the cutest thing on the rabbit blogosphere. For a change, Elvis approves!

Happy week ahead!

OMG! Those little bunnies are the cutest! I'm glad Elvis approves -- wouldn't want him to be jealous. Love your Miriam Chivers progress -- beautiful! The pics of Richmond are nice too. I love seeing real cobblestone streets! Here's hoping it cools off soon -- I'm sick of the heat and humidity!

Terrific progress on Miriam; love the colors you are using! Thanks for sharing the picks of Richmond; that building would make a good stitch shop!

I love the cobblestones! I also approve of your choice for a stitching store. Maybe when things cool down Richmond will become a bit busier.

Very pretty sampler you have in the works!

I love the cobblestone, and I love old buildings, so thanks for sharing your photos. Kind of a shame the downtown area isn't busy after 5.

Wonder if those guys want a cat?

Goldie and Chico are not bonded - Goldie is with Benji. We have never tried to introduce more together - it works fine as it is.

If I am tempted I just follow Qi Papers and get my fix that way!!!

Elvis - a perfect ad for that tooth whitener miracle that keeps showing up all over the I-net.

Wonderful progress on Ms. Chivers!

Thanks for the Richmond pics... love the cobbles, and I, too, have a great love for painted/ stenciled brick.

It's too bad that it's become a bit deserted, though! Hopefully someone will come up with a revitalization plan... heck, hopefully things will start looking up soon (knock on wood) everywhere!

Elvis' smile is oh so hilarious and cute, lol!!

It's too bad about the desertion after hours, that would make a lovely quilt shop. And I love the cobblestones. I'm glad you're able to get out a bit to explore now. Love Miriam!

A downtown that closes up by 5:30? And I thought Machias was a sleepy town! It is lovely - I love those old brick buildings and streets.

I loved to look at your pictures of old houses and cobblestone streets. And yes, that house would make a fantastic quilt store.
Hopefully it has cooled off a bit over there. Our heat wave has gone for the moment but who knows what there is ahead?
