Biting Off More than We Can Chew-Scarlet Letter Edition

I went to In Stitches yesterday with every intention of picking up just thread and maybe a zipper project bag or two and perhaps some fabric, certainly not to buy another Scarlet Letter chart. But this chart called out to me from the SL stand, and of course I wound up buying thread for that instead of the other chart I was kitting up. And Patricia, Enabler-in-Chief at In Stitches, said, "it would be a great companion piece for And All Was for An Appill." I like AAWFAA, but I wasn't really going to stitch it, but now I really should, shouldn't I? Or maybe this one, which is a similar style: The Lady and the Castle in an Autumn Landscape. Since school is over and I have sensibly decided to take just a single course this coming semester, I'll have more time to stitch, but even I think this is all a little nuts. But I'm going to try it anyway! Here is my start on "A Parrot, A Leopard and a Lion." I'm using 40 count vintage Navy Bean and AVAS (over two). I'm not doing the tent stitch background. Why use nice linen if you're going to do that?

In any case, I decree this the summer of Scarlet Letter, and I will try to show SL progress each week. And I'm thinking it's high time to re-start the Summer Sunday cocktails as well. Mental note to self to go by the Virginia ABC store and select some interesting things. Today would have been perfect for a frosty cocktail in the silver shaker: it was 90 degrees.

Bet you thought I'd abandoned Catharine McNeal. Nope--I put some time into her this week. She's coming along nicely.

Don't you just love the Picture This Plus Fabric for this project?

Pink and Peaches, having Sunday brunch. Peaches: "I think that I have bitten off more than I can chew." It's fun to watch the buns eat their timothy hay: they chew it down like spaghetti strands--little by little it disappears into their faces.

Along with Outdoor Bunny, whose best feature is that he does not doot in the house. He's rather impatiently waiting for me to put in the garden, which I didn't do this weekend because I stitched instead. Sorry, OB!

Happy week ahead!

An excellent new start, Glenna! The colors are lovely!

You will love this piece. While it is a large one it sure is fun to stitch. I finished mine last year. Like you I was not going to stitch the background so I used 18 century coffee bean linen from R&R, boy do the colors come alive.
Have fun with it.

Good GRIEF I love those SL charts!! Can't wait to watch your progress on them... since I won't buy/ stitch them for goodness knows how long, I'll stitch vicariously through you. :)

Bunnies are cute as always!

And yes, wasn't it hot today?? I went outside at about 10 and thought for a split second that I must have Rip Van Winkled it and fast forwarded to July!

I love to come over to your blog and be enabled. I purchasd A Lady and a Castle in an Autumn Landscape and kitted it up several months ago. Have the chart for A Parrot, A Leopard, and A Lion. I would stitch it over 2 also, so as glad to see that was what you were doing. One day I will get to my Scarlet Letter projects, but for now I will jsut have to watch you!

Glenna, Glenna, Glenna, what is to become of you? Hm. Probably the same as what is to become of me. I have Scarlet Letteritis too, and Picked up my Susan Dunn over the weekend. These charts are like boxes of chocolates, all ready to dive into. Yum.

Love the bunnies at their spaghetti!

Hi Glenna, another SL fan here. Don't you just love their charts. APAL&AL looks wonderful. I can certainly see it hanging next to the other one. I agree with you also with the background. Makes so much sense.
Catherine is also looking wonderful. How is SarahMcH going BTW lol - Sandra.

I have been wondering for a long time, what do you do with all these cross-stitch patterns once they're finished? or does it take a long time to finish them? do you sell them at fairs? they are so cool! I love the one with the parrot! I imagine your house with these framed on the wall covering every square inch, thus I wonder... :-)

YGG Glenna!! One must do their best to stimulate the local economy, especially independent business owners like Ellen. ;) I LOVE that chart! I think Patricia is right--it would go sooo nicely with AAWFAA. I love your progress on Catherine, too!

You and Margaret are killin' me with these beautiful SL designs. Absolutely beautiful. I will eventually stitch AAWFAA. It is such a funky A&E design; it amazes me how far it dates back. I love the Parrot, Lion, Leopard design that you bought. It would make a great companion piece. :) I agree with you about covering up beautiful fabric with tent stitches. One class this semester... that is great!!! You deserve a break; you have taken a lot of classes for quite awhile.
Catharine McNeal looks great. I love the fabric.
Pink, Peaches, and OB...all adorable as always. :)

Aw, Pink and Peaches look so cute! :D I'd forgetten that about how they eat hay ... it is adorable.

Your newest project is just incredibly gorgeous, and as you know, I love the other WIP you have going.

Looking forward to the cocktails again, too. Maybe I'll jump on board with that one this time.

I just love your post title, lol. Aren't we doing that all the time? Your SL collection is just awesome and so are your WIPs. They are stitched with wonderful colours that most certainly seduce you to take the respective piece and continue stitching on it.
