Whimsy

Several of you have suggested that the cocktail of the week should be margaritas. I wanted to let you know that I take your suggestions seriously. I do have a rule that the cocktail of the week should be made from scratch--no mixers, no lo-cal sodas, powders or potions or energy drinks. No shortcuts! [Edited to add: just for this project, of course. I'm generally all about the diet sodas, and I'm more likely than not to drink a little bit of rum with a diet coke. But there's nothing "artisanal" about that...] So I make my own simple syrup and squeeze the lemons, the limes, etc. This frozen margarita was ok, but it tasted mainly of ice. BF stepped in with a bottled mixer from the VA ABC store and his cocktails (not photographed) were much tastier. BF likes tequila, so we used Patron Anejo, Patron Citronge, lime juice (and some sort of electric yellow mixer) and kosher salt for the rim of the glass. Wooo! Thanksh, all, for the shuggeshtionsh!

I courted stitchy numb-butt this weekend. Here's one of several projects that I picked up.

Here's another. I don't normally stitch whimsical projects, even though I have nothing against them--I'd just generally prefer to do the big reproduction samplers. But I spied this in the LNS yesterday when I went to pick up refills of some AVAS and scope out different fabrics for Sarah McP, which I will be starting again when I go on vacation in 2 weeks. It's a Bent Creek Design called "So Happy." I stitched it on 34 ct Legacy Linen in cafe au lait, using 2 over 2 with DMC, WDW and GAST threads. It's actually part of a larger design that shows 2 deer touching noses under a tree upon which a family of owls looks down. It's cute, but I chose to stitch just the rabbit burrow. Not sure the buttons add anything to it, but they came in the pack, so I attached them.

Life imitating art.

Happy week ahead!

I happen to like my vodka straight out of the bottle, so I may give this recipe a try. ;)

Your summer's been jam-packed I see! Lots of gorgeous stitching. Sorry to hear about the sunk costs, but you've gotta love your projects or there's just no sense in it.

G-Bunny really hit my heart. I hope the wee lass is doing well.

Continue to be inspired by your tri bonded bun family. We are still at it, though with less fur flying and no more nips (yet), which is not to say there are have been no attempts. Love that rabbit burrow, of course!

Hi Glenna! I love your little row of bunnies - very cute. I like the whimsical in between my big projects - it gives me a very fast sense of accomplishment that bolsters me to keep moving along with those massive ones.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Oh MAN those look like wonderful drinks!!! Yummm.

Love the row of bunnies--the real ones especially--but cute finish! Good for you getting a case of Stitch Ass this weekend. Looks like you were very productive!

Mmmm, the margaritas look cool and inviting...I'd rather taste more than ice, though!

There's little better than numb-butt, my opinion!

Love, love, love that bun row. I must aquire that design! Too cute! Great stitching, Glenna!

Hi Glenna,
Love both of your projects. That bunny burrow is so cute (both the stitched one and the "fur" real one).
Have a great week ahead!

Big LOL here at the juxtaposition of the photo of the needlepoint bunnies followed by the real ones! :-D

Oh I love that bunny piece you did!!! It's soooooo cute! I know what you're saying about tending to stick to big repros, but that is just wonderful. :D Can't wait to see what you come up with for the Sarah restart. (Did you see Helena Kutz?? I love that one from the Essamplaire too!) Great progress on your other piece too!

No tequilla for me. It does not like me. My brother picked up some mescal for me while he was in Mexico. It still sits in the cabinet.

I love your bunnies. They are so sweet.

Attic Needlework had some info on the American Sampler we were all drooling over that was originally in Treasures in Needlwork 1993. If I recall correctly, the chart is being re-issued and pre-orders taken.

Oh, the BC bunnies look like your bunnies! So cute! ;-)

Sometimes it's nice to stitch something completely different.

Looks like the bunns are working on War and Peace or Atlas Shrugged. Or maybe that newly popular Julia Child French Cooking book! ... Oh I hope not the latter ... a friend who owns a Used Book store says that one and Barbara Kingsolver books are NEVER available!

Glenna, the Inspired Needle keeps the regular Tapestry needles by Bohin and she does ship (I asked). I got my first ones from Essamplaire with the Martha Edlin class and really find them to be better. Thanks for the post. Marjo

As always, love your WIPs, and the little row of stitched bunnies above the row of real bunnies is wonderful! Peaches has such a sweet face...if i drew her, i think i would have to draw long eyelashes on her!

Ah, my favorite cocktail. I love them freshly made, but if I'm in a real pince Jose Cuervo golden margaritas will fit the bill perfectly.

Both your pieces are looking great!

The bunnies are so cute, the stitched ones too. The drinks may have been weak, but they look wonderful!
