Distracted

I am supposed to be working on midterm exams for my two classes, but I've been taking regular little blocks of time to stitch. Progress on "July":

I ordered this from 123stitch, and it came very quickly, as do all of my orders from them. It's charted for DMC, but I subbed AVAS because I prefer it. I started it. Frankly, although I said I was going to devote July to patriotic stitching, my interest in that (I now have about 8 patriotic charts waiting in the wings) has begun to...er...flag. I'm pretty distractable--but needlework is about the only thing I have any control over. Schoolwork, the work grind, the commute, a certain basic level of personal and household hygiene, all pretty non-negotiable. Needlework? I give myself permission to do anything I want.

Then there's this. Wow, what colors. And a departure for The Victoria Sampler, I think, because there's not a band in sight. There is some surface embroidery, some beading, some specialty stitches, and some ribbon work. But it's not too large, so it's not terribly daunting. It came with a thread pack (NIP, AVAS, Kreinik Mori, Kreinik braid, silk ribbon, GAST and beads) and I bought the recommended color of linen: Vintage cashel in "country mocha," only I got the 32 ct. instead of the recommended 28.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to get up to meet the Sampler Girl and see her trunk show, so I'd better get back to my exams. Later!

Ack!!! You always pick the designs I want to be stitching! I love that new Victoria Sampler piece!! You have to tell me how the surface embroidery and stuff is. I'm intimidated by surface embroidery which is what's stopping me on that one. And yes, I think you deserve to do what you want stitchingwise -- you're pretty amazing with all you do! Have fun meeting Tanya! I'm envious!

Hi Glenna,
I really like your "July" piece. I just broke down and ordered it. Dang you! It's so cute, and I kept coming back to your blog to study it, and all of your patriotic samplers. They are just darling! I'm in the mood for some new samplers, so one of these years I should get them done.
I'm excited for our Sail Away SAL. I'm let you know when it gets closer what we are doing.
Have a great rest of the weekend.

I know what you mean about needing that one activity that is all about what you want, and not other people. I'm glad you've got that, even if Elvis looks like he's mad about everything right now. So cute!

Good Luck with your exams!

That Tea Party pattern is to die for!! I just love it!! You'll have to keep us updated and let us know how tough it is w/ the specialty stitches - that'll let me know if I should even buy the pattern, lol!!

Trunk Show??? How did I not hear about this before now?? I guess it'd help if I would've subscribed to Tanya's blog before now, huh? Hmmm.... I wonder what I could bribe Leah with to be on her best behavior so I could get down there... hmmm...

I'm with Elvis on the issue of rigid schedules. And with you on the decision that in our needlework hobby, all should be allowed. Regular life has more than enough rules and restrictions! Say hey to Tanya for me at the trunk show! :D

Oh, that new Victoria Sampler is so nice - I keep eyeballing it because, as you said, it is a departure from her normal patterns! Love your progress on the PS piece too.

Hope you have great fun at the trunk show! Darn it, i didn't know about Tanya's blog before...and now i know about the Potomac Bead Company, too...aargh! I'm glad you're making some time for stitchery in between work, school, and all that other stuff. Gee, Elvis sure looks grumpy in this pic!

Oh Glenna, I was JUST looking at that Victoria sampler piece. I have never been interested in their other things but this one caught my eye. I am looking forward to seeing your progress on this one.

I love the PS piece too - loads of lovely colours!

I know what you mean about the stress, busy-ness stuff. Don't need it during summer! Take care!

Oh Glenna, I fell in love with that new VS right away. I thought it had my name all over it until I saw all the stitches, so I'm resisting. Will watch your progress and see if I can be pursuaded to change my mind. It is a cool design.
