Waiting for Chupacabra

Greetings! This week saw a little progress on the Shepherd's Bush Adam & Eve. The snake was fun to stitch. I started a little Easter treat; pictures next week.

It's a very warm early spring in DC, so I've been trying to get out of the office to walk around, partly to find food, since I haven't gotten back into the groove of the packed lunch yet. I work across the street from these guys. The signs say: "Ban All Nuclear Weapons or Have a Nice Doomsday."

In the year and a half that I was working elsewhere, the food truck has taken over the streets of DC. I can only imagine the damage it has done to all the little (mediocre) cafes and delis where we used to pick up our overpriced sandwiches. Now we can order just about any kind of sandwich, wrap, meat-on-a-stick or cupcake curbside. The various trucks ply their wares in different parts of town each day, and they transmit their locations and specials on Twitter. Some trucks offer tastier fare than others, and truck decor goes from straightforward stenciling to over-the-top. I've been looking for Chupacabra, which is supposed to be quite good and has an an artistically painted truck. This day I bought a chivita sandwich from Mojo Truck.

It was a garlic-buttered roll with a layer of pulled pork, a fried egg, lettuce and tomato, and a pungent sauce that performed a slow burn in the back of my throat for the rest of the day.

I've noticed on my commute that nearly everyone is sporting a Kindle or an Ipad rather than carrying a book. Peaches wants to know what she will chew on if the Kindle replaces the book.

Happy week ahead!

Great progress on your SB.

Food trucks are just beginning to come to Nashville. We get excited about food fairs--locally grown fresh produce, eggs, etc.

Do you get to enjoy the cherry blossoms?

I miss the food trucks from when I was working in NYC. They had some of the best food.
Tell Peach that some of us still prefer to read paper books... so she shouldn't fret.

Love the SB.
Hmmm the DH doesn't tell me about the food trucks. I wonder if they have them around the State Dept. I'll have to ask.
Tell Peaches she'll just have to hit the used book stores for a snack.

Tell Peaches I'll send her some books - while I may eventually get a tablet, I don't think I'll ever read a book on it. Love the feel of the paper in my hands.

How sweet Bush's A&E is. That sandwich sounds pretty good to me. I love pulled pork. How do they always find a parking spot?

It's great to see that the tree grows, and on it has settled a snake! )))
I look forward to continue!

While a kindle would be nice, the feel of a book in one's hand is wonderful. Your needle work is coming along great.

Hi Glenna, I just love that SB you are stitching up! The colors are so pretty. Nice pics from DC. Today on the Sunday Morning show they showed that the cherry blossoms were blooming? Are they really? It is so early! Peaches is a real cutie! Have a great night.

You ate THAT??? Pulled pork with fried egg ... hmmmm.

Tell Pink we have a couple boxes of books we can ship out anytime. Does Pink like Romances?

Beautiful stitching. I just love the colours of this design.

Tell Peaches not to worry. There are still people (me ^.^) who prefers paper books.

Hugs,
Veronica.

Nice progress on Eve's Garden, Glenna. I find the concept of a food truck so intriguing. In the little village in Normandy where my husband has to go for business there is a guy with a wood fired oven in his truck, and he makes the best pizza. Its so much fun.

That is a very cute snake! Shepherd's Bush has sweet designs.

I still like hard copy books...I'm not so sure I'd like rabbit nibbles on them, though!

Beautiful stitching on the new SB piece. It is so nice that you can get outside during lunch.

Beautiful stitching, Glenna! And you are so lucky to work in DC--I just love that city. My youngest son lives in Arlington and works in the city and is so happy there...

I'll bet the cherry blossoms are looking beautiful right about now!

Adam & Eve is coming along very nicely. Your pictures of DC are great, the sandwich sounds interesting but I don't know about pulled pork and fried egg.

My DH loves his kindle for travel :-)!!!! I am so liking the SB Adam and Eve piece. I may have to get that one out sooner rather than later.

Beautiful progress on Eve's Garden. I think the food truck variety is great - hope you'll report on the Chupacabra when you find it - I am officially intrigued. And I have enough paper books at my house to keep Peaches happy for a LONG TIME.

Tell Peaches she's safe as far as I'm concerned. My Kindle doesn't hold a candle to a real book!

Those food trucks are all the rage here and we have "off the grid" in different parts of the city throughout the week. I really like the SB A&E. The colors and motifs are great!

Nice progress on your SB!!

That sandwich looks good--except swap out the pork for some chicken, maybe. Man, I miss good sandwiches...
