Borrowed Light

Hi, all. I've had a nice opportunity to stitch this weekend, and here are some of the results: I've started Anniversaries of the Heart by Blackbird Designs. The colors are just beautiful, although to show you the stitching, I had to throw a little more light on the fabric, which has washed it out a bit. I'm working on 40 count Lakeside Meadow Rue using the recommended GAST, WDW and CC fibers. The first design is "Snow Garden," of course, perhaps containing the most subtle colors of the 19 designs (and the most problematic for choosing the right fabric). The bonus for working on this year-old series is that I know what it looks like finished up and what the bonus charts are. I'm interested in working on Margaret Cottom (La-d-Da), but I am being typically cautious and waiting to see the whole thing.

I visited with a stitching friend, who has completed this design: "Menagerie" by Drawn Thread. I'm using a piece of fabric from my stash--Lakeside, possibly Pecan Butter in 40 count, using the recommended NPI and Dinky Dyes fibers. The completed design is beautiful IRL, although the copied photo on the chart doesn't do it justice. Great charting though, which counts for a lot, but: Designers! Large clear photos sell more charts! Don't hide your light under a bushel--or a dimly copied or digitized cover!

I love the calming colors of these two projects. I've also spent the long weekend putting the finishing touches on a stitched or knitted gift (not tellin'!) for a needlework event I'm attending in December. I'll show photos after the recipient has had a chance to see it. Does it make you nervous to stitch for stitchers? I find myself looking at it more critically than I normally would. I'd hate for someone to look at my stitching/finishing and think: "Amateur. Perhaps you should take up bowling."

Lots of my neighbors have gotten busy with their Christmas lights already. This year I probably am not going to do much in that department, and I'll just enjoy theirs. We laughed last night about the wattage from across the street leaving burn marks on the outside of our house, but the display is well done and cheerful--borrowed light.

Here are the bunnies, having a conference through the bars.

AotH looks great! Such pretty colors! I'll have to remember your fabric. Love the other project too. As for Margaret Cottam -- hey, you're the one who usually dives right into projects. Why wait? lol! I'm looking forward to stitching her as well.

Looks nice Glenna, like the design but I like all the ones you choose to do. Love to watch your progress on them.

Great choices for your two new projects. They both have a wintry feel, which is perfect.

Yes! When I stitch for stitchers, I still get nervous. So glad you're enjoying the lights and thought that the "scorch marks" pun was hillarious! You'll really enjoy AotH as a stitch, but I hope it doesn't make you get too sad at some parts.

Great starts! I have the BBD series to do - but can't decide if I want to tackle it on one piece, or separate them. And the other project - love it! That bunny is so sweet!

Your stitching is so pretty - each stitch is perfect. I am going to enjoy watching the progress of both these projects.

Very nice as always Glenna. I have a neighbor whose lights make you feel as if you're on a ride in Disneyland.

Beautiful new starts, Glenna.

I agree designers need better pictures. I think some of them do it on purpose to keep people from stitching from the photos ~ like that would be fun ~ not!

Maybe those bunnies are discussing your hobbies. I'd keep my eye on them!

Beautiful stitching Glenna! Enjoy Anniversaries of the Heart. I'm stitching them separately, and each one is such a beautiful design. Cute picture of the bunnies!

Those Bunns - those bunns are plotting and schemeing. Hide all loose ends.

"There once was a stitcher named Yarn, Who just couldn't stitch for a darn. When trying to stitch, he just started to twitch - now he tutors young stitchers to stitch." Or whatever ...

Now those are my kind of colors!! Gorgeous, Glenna - just perfect for calm, meditative, wintertime stitching. :)

Snow Garden and Menagerie are both gorgeous and I can't wait to see them as you stitch! Funny about the Christmas lights ~ some of our neighbors had theirs up way before Thanksgiving.
Cute bunny conference! :)

Great new projects, Glenna! I agree with you about DT--their designs are so nice but I don't think the chart pics do them justice. I frequently stop and look at my The Marriage of Minds to admire (not my stitching! that sounds bad...) the colors and different motifs. I can't wait to see how you personalize AotH--it'll look great on Meadow Rue.

Were the buns plotting a rebellion? Or just planning Christmas?

I absolutely loved stitching Snow Garden because of it's calming and muted colors. But you're right, it makes fabric choice difficult. I think your Meadow Rue is perfect. And I've never seen that Drawn Thread piece before - gorgeous as well. I love the idea of borrowed light. I won't be doing much of my own this holiday season, so I'll be borrowing as well. Hugs to you.

Glenna, the bread was from my local Hannaford's supermarket bakery. I can't vouch for how authentic their "Portuguese" bread recipe is; I honestly think they throw sesame seeds on half the batch of these loaves and call it "Italian scali" bread. But it was very fresh and yummy!
They also carry a line of Portuguese breads & rolls baked in N.B. or F.R, named "Amaral's", I think. The sweet bread (the big round loaf) makes the BEST French toast!

Beautiful and can't wait to see more. Wonder what the buns were chatting about?

Oh Glenna, both your new projects are a great choice. I had never seen the DT piece before and I'm completely with you when it comes to photos on the projects. I'd like to see as much as possible so that the seducing works best, lol.
