Hurrah for the Red, White and Blue...

...because it's going to give me a break from these eyelets. All the same, I have completed four of the ten lollipops or "candles." Just six to go. Very time-consuming, but they're turning out well. We will not discuss the tedium of the over-one verse on 40 count.

Here's Dorothy Walpole, as far as I've stitched. Although I complain, it's going to be a stunner.

I love stitching patriotic designs in the same way that others like to stitch Christmas, and I actually manage to finish one most years. (Last year was Prairie Schooler's "July." Or wait. The year before?) I was thinking of stitching "America" or "Brave Hearts" by Little House, but then I spied this little Crown and Thistle kit on ebay called "Hurrah for the Red, White and Blue" (I think--I don't see the name on the package). It came with everything in it, but I swapped out the included 32 count fabric for a 36 count mystery linen from my stash. After all those eyelets, I'm enjoying the variegation of the WDW threads and stitching the little white stars. Of course, I've defied the instructions to stitch with one thread in most of the areas since I don't like that coverage even on 36 count, so we'll see how that goes.

Here's what the the design looks like. Out of print, I'm fairly certain.

Pink: "I'm a little white star." Yes you are, Pink!

Happy week ahead!

Your patriotic design is so pretty!!

If you gave Pink a blueberry, then red, white, and blue hurrah would be bunnified.

Dorothy is going to be a feast for the eyes. I don't think I've ever seen a design with an eyelet grouping that large. Well, if I did, I would have tried to forget it. Perfect stitches as always, and a treat for us to view.

BL does recipes like you do stitch instructions. She never saw one that couldn't use a bit of an improvment!

I think I see the Peach back in there too! Happy Holidays!

(I know - what Holidays? - but I do calendars like you do stitching ...)

Dorothy is so pretty, Glenna! You are right, it will be stunning when finished.

I love stitching patriotic pieces, too, although I never seem to get them finished!

Love your progress on Dorothy Glenna. I didn't realize that there were so many eyelet stitches in that piece. But it's going to be a stunner when finished.

Fun projects!!! I especially love Dorothy. I am trying to pace myself so I am not going to start her until I finish a couple things I am already working on :-). I like patriotic designs too.

Hi Glenna, I'm a fellow cross-stitcher and I've been a long-time follower of your blog and I live here in the NOVA area. My parents live in Pittsburgh and my dad found a pet rabbit (looks a lot like Peaches) in the cemetery behind his house that is extremely tame and he doesn't know what to do with it. He can't keep it because my parents already have two dogs and two cats, but he is worried about wild animals getting it. It has been living there for about two weeks and will eat right out of your hand. It even comes when he calls it (he has been calling it Thumper). What should we do? I am trying to get my husband come around to the idea of us taking it in, but I don't know how that will go. Would you be interested in a 4th rabbit? I'm going to visit Pittsburgh this weekend and check out the situation. Thanks for any advice you may be able to provide. I didn't know any other way to contact you.

Hi to Ceflathrop about the rabbit. We're full up on rabbits, BF tells me (he's not a fan of the rabbits as I am), so here are my suggestions. Definitely don't leave it there. Poor thing isn't equipped for life in the wild even though it looks like a wild bunny. I've seen horrible injuries of rabbits left outside. I did a little online research and there's a Pittsburgh House Rabbit Club and an org. called Animal Friends of Pittsburgh. They may have advice or know of a shelter. Or even the local no-kill SPCA type place would be better. I'd love to take it, but I'd have 20 rabbits by now if I did, and the rabbits and I would be looking for a new home! Thanks for caring about the little thing. Email me at glennalgregory@gmail.com if you have questions or want to talk further. A rabbit who comes when you calls is (in my experience) pretty rare--how cool. IMO, that rabbit's a keeper. You might want to try? I can coach you on getting set up.

That Dorothy is HOT! It is a stunner, but I can see why you need a break from those queens. Enjoy the R, W, & B!

Hey, there! I hear Audrey is with you. Does she have any plans for the first two weeks of June? I'm going to Colorado from 6/9 - 6/16, and I'd love her company. If she can get here by 6/3, she can go to a conference in north Texas, too!

Ann (bunnygirl) said...

Michelle says she sent Audrey to you in January. Maybe you two should get in touch and try to figure out what went wrong. I hate to think she's been lost all this time.

Siobhán said...

Your eyelets are perfection!! What a great design. I love your patriotic piece, too!

Ann (bunnygirl) said...

So have you been in touch with Michelle? Did she have a tracking number?

I've asked Diana Moll if she still has her Audrey, but it won't be the same. We need to find OUR Audrey, if it's still possible at this late date.
