Market

Yesterday I went to In Stitches and had a blast buying the things they brought back from Market. But first, this is what I stitched on this week: "A Parrot, a Leopard, a Lion," by Scarlet Letter.

I had such fun meeting people yesterday: a dear reader from Spotsylvania who has 132 samplers! I've encouraged her to start a blog so she can share with us; she was holding two beautiful needlepoint projects that she had completed--a tiny stocking and a New Orleans-style mask--such beautiful work. I'm so sorry that I didn't take my camera! I also met Stitching Cats who was also shopping! And the designer of Catharine McNeal, Patty Yergey of Samplers Revisited, was there with a framed model of a brand-new sampler, "Mary Western 1820." I can't show you the sampler, because it's under wraps until the online show at the end of October. But here's a sneak peek from her site. Having seen the model, I predict it will fly off the shelves: it's a happy and adorable reproduction done up in glorious colors of pink and rose and amethyst and blue and yellow. You can see a butterfly in her little peek, but my favorites which you cannot see are two little blue and yellow striped birds. And the charming verse is over two in pink.

I picked up this little sampler, called "Paradis Perdu," by "a mon ami Pierre (Dessin)." If you like A&E's, you're going to love this one. Notice Eve's typically French bikini panties--no granny panties for her in this project! Call In Stitches if you want one--there were a couple left on the rack as of yesterday a.m. (703-360-4600).

I liked this and kitted it up--here's the floss toss.

Porcupine Collection is re-releasing their old charts, and In Stitches had several of those also. I got Mary Slatter and Jane Ballard. This is Jane:

And here is the chart spread out on the coffee table next to a Scarlet Letter chart booklet of Catharine Metcalfe to give you an idea of the size of the project. It's charted for DMC, as are the other Porcupine Collection charts. I did a conversion to silks in my stash.
There were other things that I got, and there's still a list of things that I want to acquire--someday (I saw some brilliant red fabric I regret not picking up). I think next year I'll take the week off after market, visit the store on the first day and then stitch the rest of my vacation. As it is, I hate the idea of heading to work tomorrow. I'm off to do some stitching with what's left of the day. Wonder if BF will mind having cereal for dinner....

Pink: "This is what I would do with your charts. You have hardly noticed me all weekend!"

Happy week ahead!

Love your Parrot, Lion and Leopard. And I love all your stash you picked up as well. I'm trying so hard to resist that Paradis Perdue, but I feel myself slowly losing the battle. Sigh. So many pretty things!! Thanks for the eye candy. As for dinner, tell BF to cook -- why does it have to be your responsibility? :D

Glenna it was nice meeting you at In Stitches. I enjoy putting a face to a blog. Wasn't the new stuff great.
I am starting my own collection of Quakers Samplers but I have a looooong way to go before I catch up with everyone else. I am not a fast stitcher.

Ah Glenna, thanks for all the nice comments. You know, we have as much fun shopping at market as you do at our shop. I wish I could take everyone with me or tell you about every single thing we got--not enough time--not if I EVER want to have a chance to stitch.
See you later, Ellen

Oh you bad bad enabler, Glenna! I love all those things! *sigh* you are so lucky to be able to go to a real shop and see all these great things! Glad you shared it on your blog with us.

The Scarlet Letter piece is so pretty & colourful!

I really like the sampler you are working on. Not to mention your new stash. I am off to order Paradis Perdu and Jane. Loved your comment on the panties!

Goodness, the colors on that Scarlet Letter piece just are so beautiful! I am really enjoying watching you stitch this!

Wonderful stash enhancement, too! I got the newsletter in ym email and fantasized about getting down there this weekend, but alas, our schedule was packed. Just as well! I really have no business buying anything new with so much unstitched stash! ;)

Have a great week!

I sure hope that isn't your homework the buns are eating!

I swear, I'm going to get a t-shirt that says, "Daffycat" on it and wear it to the stitch shops....just to see how many people recognise me!

Cereal? Yes - we like a bit of that now and again! BL has been ignoring us quite a bit due to her writing too - what say we revolt!!!!

"Leave a Light On" looks charming, but not as charming as Pink with that piece of paper in his mouth!

Great shopping trip, Glenna! It sounds like you a lot of fun. Thanks for the peek of Mary Western. A couple of the Porcupine Collection re-releases are on my list, too. And you're right - that is one large chart!

Oh darn you and your amazing taste in projects, Glenna! I'd hoped not to buy anything else for about the next twenty years ....

I love Leave a Light on! Isn't meeting readers fun? And also kind of weird since they know more about you than you do about them?

Such fun shopping you did! I love the idea of taking the week after Market off work to stitch and shop. Fun! Great start on Parrot, Lion and Leopard. I think a friend of mine is stitching this right now.

Your sampler is looking so beautiful, and I think I've said it before, but I love the colors!

It sounds like you had a wonderful time at In Stitches! I love the charts you chose - there are so many pretty new ones! Enjoy!

Hugs to the bunnies!

Your pictures are so good. The colors of your stitching are sharp. What make of camera do you use?

Your Parrot, L&L looks great, Glenna! I love your stash haul. I cracked up at size of the Porcupine chart in comparison to the SL. At least you can get in your exercise time while you wrestle the big chart! LOL

wow, wonderful things! i'm trying to be good & not look them all up & hit "buy it now"! :-)

Hi Glenna - I'm a loyal reader of your blog - how cool we have the exact same birthday!! I was born in Moline Illinois and grew up there but eventually by way of Chicago I met my DH and moved to Phoenix. I hope you have a fantastic birthday weekend and be sure to buy some lottery tickets for our special day just in case It's funny but all of my best friends thoughout my life have been Libras too. Happy Birthday - it was a good day when we arrived back on 10/10/55!

P.S. I forgot to mention I love your new stash and your Scarlet Letter sampler is coming along beautifully - the outlining really just makes it pop on the fabric.(I also love bunnies and have several bunny figurines scattered around my house although I've never had a pet one).

A Parrot, A Leopard, A Lion is one of my all time favorite SL designs. I'm coveting your stash. I definitely want to score those Porcupine Collection charts before she decides not to sell the any more.

Good thinking little bunnies to get the attention of your human. But let me get you end up in your rabbit hutches locked up. Am I ring?
