Irises

Thank you, everyone, for your well-wishes for my exams tomorrow. I'll be so glad when they're over--all that studying has been cramping my style. The last paper was submitted Wednesday, and I took today off to relax. I've learned the hard way over the years that it's better to go into the finals after a day off. It will be a marathon tomorrow, with exam 1 at 9 a.m., exam 2 at 1 p.m. and exam 3 at 7 p.m. So today I went grocery shopping, bought 4 bags of composted manure for the new garden bed (why, oh why must everything be in a 40-lb bag? 30 lbs would be so much easier to deal with!), got a few new plants, came home and barbecued a couple of chickens (didn't want to wait for the inevitable afternoon thunderstorm to rain out dinner), did some stitching.

Since it didn't rain today (yet) for a change, I surveyed the yard. This is the first bearded iris of the season. I love these guys!

Art imitating life: do most of you have this chart by Just Nan? It's called "Sparking Iris." Sadly I cannot for the life of me remember if I bought her "Tulips" or not. I've had it in my hands at the needlework shop. I think. I do that in the grocery store too: pick something up, look it over, decide against it, and put it back on the shelf. Then when I get home I wonder what happened to it.

Here's my stitching progress on Alphabetissimo. It's a little distorted because I've clipped it to a hanger--it's getting too large to photograph easily.

Now all that's left to do is take a nap.

"Watch out for those naps. While I was sleeping, someone stole my other ear."

LOL gotta love the bunny with the missing ear!

Keeping good thoughts for you tomorrow, Glenda! Know it will be trial, and won't be long until you are finished!!

Your Aphabet piece is looking amazingly beautiful!

OMG Elvis ate Peaches' ear!

Look under the car seats? I once gave a lady $25 in steaks because she insisted she didn't get home with hers. She brought them back a half hour later, having found hers in the car. Once perishables leave the store they must be trashed. Grrr!

Good luck on those exams! It's good you figured out to take a day off before them. Nice WIP, and your bunnies are wonderful, as usual!

LOL I hope Peaches got her ear back eventually. I bet one of those boyz hid it in the hay. Bearded Irises are the best, I agree. There is a magnificent clump of them on our neighborhood walk and I often linger. like some strange floral stalker, on the sidewalk. Good luck with exams, you are smart to go them fresh and should get bonus points for that.

Peaches needs to be more careful where she leaves things.

Good luck on your exams!

Good luck on the exams - a restful day is a great idea. Love your iris'! I had some in my yard for many years and had the most lovely chocolate brown one - unfortunately, they're long gone. Your Alphabetisimo is looking wonderful and poor little Peaches......

Peaches! Ouch!

Exams! Ouch!

Elvis! Cute!

Iris! They have several commercial Iris growers out this way ... a fancy Iris costs $50 and more for just one of the doo-whickeys (rhizome?) you plant. Beautiful though! But I like the good old plain janes too .. we have quite a few .. not ready to bloom for a couple weeks yet. Yours is grand!

I hope your exams went well (I'm a little behind the curve here)!! LOVE the iris! I just planted some last fall, but it's looking like this is their non-blooming year, so I'll have to possess myself with patience and wait another year, I guess. Love Alphabetissimo. Gorgeous!!
