Crunch Time
No needlework today. I'm posting this for my sister, who is generally our pre-Christmas car cruncher, although to be fair, not for a number of years now. I drove through the metro station parking garage, a place I've driven a thousand times before, and hit a big concrete pylon type thing that has always been there, and which I have safely navigated around a thousand times before today. Peeled the car skin back just like the lid on a cat food can. I'm hoping the underlying engine stuff is ok, but there's no doubt there's quite a bit of damage. Even the experienced Allstate claims adjuster said "Wow!" to the damage. I had to tear some pieces off with my hands to pull them away from the tire so I could drive to the claims center. I have a rental car to drive. And either the 'flu, or one of the worst colds I've had in years, which may be why I miscalculated. Thank goodness I didn't hit another car--or a person. It is just stuff, even if it is an inconvenient bit of stuff to have out of commission.

Oh Glenna, I'm so sorry! It's always a pain to have your car out of commission. And to be sick on top of it. Hope you're feeling better soon and the car bills aren't huge. Take it easy!

Oh, dear. I'm sorry you had to have this happen at all, much less at holiday time. At least no one was hurt. It's only stuff. Sorta.
ReplyDeleteOh, yikes. I am SO sorry!! Agh. I did that to my poor Roxanne a few years ago. I drove too close to a wrought iron gate that I'd driven through countless times, and peeled the skin off the car. I hope it doesn't take too long to get fixed! I hope you're feeling better soon, too. xxo

Good golly Glenna, that's a bummer, but at least nobody was hurt. It could have been worse. What if you were on your way to the LNS for a sale and hit the gas instead of the break and plowed right through? Think of all that wonderful fabric, thread, and charts that could have been destroyed. I think hitting a pole was less painful.

NO!! Glenna, I'm so sorry. I did this exact same thing myself a couple of days ago, so I know how you felt. The sound of crunching metal ... not good. You've got a great attitude, though! Hope you're feeling better by now.
ReplyDeleteI have been known to mis-judge a corner, a pole or whatever but it's usually ME that smacks into them. That's a lot of damage, I'm so glad you're safe.

Oh no Glenna!! I'm so sorry! Don't feel too bad - I did the same thing not too long ago. I was leaving the Sonic drive thru and looked over for a second, when I looked back I was practically on top of one of those yellow poles. Dented my door pretty good (dh said it looked like I got hit by a school bus). Hope you feel better soon!!! Take care!!

Glad you're OK. All the car safety devices do a good job protecting the people in the car, but the outside of the car seems to be toast more often than not. Perhaps you could outsource some of your Christmas duties and huddle up with buns and stitchery until you feel better.
